WHAT’S INSIDE

Explore the Curriculum

The Money Explorers online financial literacy course for kids is organized into three sections that build a strong foundation for understanding, earning, and stewarding money. Each section includes 10 age-appropriate lessons, fun games and stories, creative activities, and original videos to help families grow together in financial education and stewardship.

SECTION 1

What is Money?

In this section, kids learn that money is a tool, not a treasure. It has a history, a purpose, and a story. They’ll explore bartering, ancient currencies, and how money has changed over time. Lessons also cover the things money can’t buy, global wealth perspective, fun facts, and activities like “Treasure Hunt” and “The Peace Jar,” all helping kids build a deeper understanding and sense of gratitude.

SECTION 2

Earning

This section helps kids explore the purpose of work and the value of effort. Through biblical wisdom and real-life examples, they’ll learn how money is earned with creativity, skill, and service. Stories of entrepreneurs and simple ways of getting paid for jobs at home make earning feel possible and fun. With lessons on responsibility, honesty, and using talents, kids begin to see work as a way to earn, serve, and grow.

SECTION 3

Stewarding

Kids learn how to wisely manage what God has given them through spending, saving, giving, and investing. Lessons focus on developing a healthy mindset for making thoughtful choices in each area and beginning to plan for the future. With Scripture, stories, and activities, this section builds strong money habits, helps kids think biblically about each basket, and equips them to steward money with purpose.

The Fourth Basket: Investing

Most children’s financial education stops at three baskets: spending, saving, and giving. But that’s not the whole picture.

Investing is essential for gaining long-term freedom over your time, and it’s a concept reflected throughout the Bible. Kids are more than capable of understanding that money can grow when it’s managed wisely. Through age-appropriate lessons, we introduce the basics of investing while connecting them to faith, patience, and purpose.

It’s not about chasing wealth, it’s about stewarding what God has given us so it can multiply and bless our families and others for years to come.

We don’t just explain investing, we offer practical ways for kids to start forming real investing habits early. From simple examples and concepts like compounding, to biblical principles like sowing and reaping, we help kids see that investing isn’t just wise, it’s part of God’s design.

Early financial literacy is one of the most overlooked but powerful advantages a child can have.

Kids who grasp financial principles early are more confident, less stressed, and more likely to pursue work, education, and life paths that align with their values instead of their financial pressures.

Hi, I’m Joel

Founder of Rest Over Riches, husband, homeschool dad to four, and follower of Jesus. I created this curriculum out of a deep desire to help kids and their families, including my own, manage money with purpose and peace. After years of following a traditional financial path and two decades in the workforce, I realized I was trading too much time for a paycheck and missing out on what mattered most, my family. Something had to change.

A Better, Biblical Path Forward

Through prayer, learning, and changing our approach to stewardship and investing, God led our family from depending solely on my paycheck to building provision through purposeful investments. Along the way, He taught us to approach money with a mindset anchored in Biblical truth. Rest Over Riches is more than a financial literacy curriculum; it’s a calling to help kids and their families embrace that same mindset: to see money through God’s eyes, to live simply, and to steward resources in a way that serves Him rather than the world. The world’s race leads to exhaustion. God’s way leads to rest.

“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” —Matthew 11:28

This course is designed to be engaging for kids, but the content is appropriate and beneficial for teens and even adults. Every lesson includes activities and discussions to help the whole family learn together. Younger readers may need guidance, but the content is written to be engaging for kids.

Not at all! The lessons are simple, clear, and easy to follow. You are welcome to learn right alongside your child.

Yes. We include biblical principles and references throughout the course to help children learn wise, God-honoring money habits.

View the course outline for more details.

Every child learns differently, and that’s one of the beautiful things about how God made us. Because each lesson covers a unique topic, we’ve focused on giving students the right information rather than making them all the same length. You’ll see a time estimate at the start of each lesson so you can plan ahead.

How long it takes will depend on a few things:

  • Your child’s age or comprehension level – Some kids move quickly, others like to pause and soak it in.
  • Your involvement – Lessons can be done independently, but when a parent or teacher joins in—especially for the “With Your Grown-up” and “Hands-On Activity” sections—the conversations often go deeper and last longer.

On average, lessons take anywhere from about 10 minutes (quick watch-and-learn) to about 30 minutes (full discussions and activities). Each one includes a short video, thought-provoking questions, and an activity. Feel free to slow down or speed up based on your child’s pace and curiosity—there’s no rush when it comes to learning truth that lasts.

Yes, if the learner can read, then they will likely be able to navigate the content, games, and quizzes on their own. That said, younger kids may benefit from having a nearby grown-up for support and discussion. Every child is different, but older children may be able to work more independently. Each lesson also includes a special section with one or two guided conversation topics to help grown-ups and kids connect and reflect together on what they’re learning.

Yes! The course is self-paced, so you and your kids can complete it on your own schedule.

We’ve designed the Money Explorers course to be flexible and family-friendly. Your child can jump into any lesson at any time. There’s no locked sequence or required order. Why? Because every family is different, and kids learn best when they’re curious and engaged.

If your child is most excited to start with lessons about earning, giving, or making smart spending choices, that’s great! Go for it.

If you’d prefer to follow our suggested path, we recommend starting with Section 1: What is Money? This section lays the foundation for many of the concepts that follow. But ultimately, you’re in charge of the journey.

Whether you go in order or skip around, our goal is the same: To help your child build a healthy, faith-rooted understanding of money at their pace, in their way.

Yes! Your family can revisit any lesson, activity, or quiz as many times as you like. You’ll always have access to the full course content, so you’re free to go back, rewatch videos, replay games, retake quizzes, and enjoy the lessons again at any time.

Just a quick note: Once a lesson has been marked complete, it can’t be restarted to show as incomplete. Your course will continue to display the original completion status. For families with multiple kids, we offer plans that include additional learner profiles—this way, each child can track their own progress and enjoy the satisfaction of completing each lesson for themselves.

Yes! In addition to the lesson topic content, every lesson includes a self-reflection question to get your child thinking, an interactive learning game, thoughtful discussion prompts, a printable activity that reinforces the lesson content while sparking creativity, and a short quiz to help review and celebrate what they’ve learned.

No special software is needed, just an internet connection and a web browser. There is a printable activity with each lesson, so having access to a printer would be helpful, but is not required. Pencil and blank paper will work too! The lesson content has been tested to display similarly on all devices including tablets and phones.

Money Explorers is designed as an interactive online experience with videos, games, and quizzes, so there’s no full PDF version of the entire course content. However, each lesson does include a printable activities or worksheet that we encourage you to download and use with your kids!
